I had that drill for about a week before returning it. This Bosch is all I need. I exchanged it for another, thinking maybe I just got a bad one, but the second one was just as bad. I've had it for a couple of years now, and it's still in perfect working condition. Never looked back.I just recently tossed my corded drill -- it was old enough to vote, and it finally decided to quit on me.
I love it. After more than two years, the first battery is still going strong, and it lasts as long as I need it to between charges.Previously, I had purchased a DeWalt 14.4V cordless. I loved it at first, but after a little use, it was obvious that it needed to go back. I won't be getting another one. I'd probably sleep with this thing under my pillow if I could.
The batteries are great too - One of them is just being stored in the garage, as I've never needed to charge it. So I decided to go for the Bosch.
Also the softer break "durashield" housing is more prone to scratches and won't help you anyway if you drop it on the cheesy plastic chuck my model came with. Even when I brought it inside and it finally warmed above freezing it only trickle charged at cold temps taking hours to fill. The biggest disappointment with this drill is that it won't charge below 32 deg F, pretty major setback for winter work that I've never seen on any other model, and I've used many. Where other chargers blast the battery with juice until it heats up enough to accept a charge Bosch just shows a red error light. I called Bosch and they said that the Litheons are the same way so I returned mine and ordered a NiMh of a different brand, more amp hours and maybe I'll actually be able to use this one.
When I say max out, there is some kind of safety torque thing which keeps the drill from harm.The batteries last a long time, even in heavy abuse.This drill passes the ULTIMATE consumer test, in which the manufacturer must be smarter than the user, and foresee the user's lack of expertise.EXTRA Value: 2 batteries, long warranty. Wow. It drilled a half inch hole in BRICK with cheap bits intended for a hammer drill (the bits didn't survive). If you use it in abnormal ways (see below) you will be astounded. Extemely high quality, very powerful. I count this in the top five purchases in my life. If you use this drill in any normal way, you will be very happy. I only managed to max out the drill trying to extract rusty 3/8 inch lag screws from treated 4 X 4's, but my conventional plug-into-the-wall-drill did no better (I was using an adapter to drive hex ratchet sockets).
Over the years, I have learned not to waste any of my hard earned money on any power tool thats not a Bosch. They are quite, powerful, smooth and dont get hot.
i won't mention the brand, of that which was replaced. :) Has the torque to spin those big wood screws, that sucked the life outa my old yellow drill. that being the yellow one.
